Teal Moon: Bio

Chris Johnson

Chris is a multi-talented musician/ audio engineer/ sound designer/ composer and producer with over 15 years experience covering a diverse range of projects from live performances and workshops to his most current project producing the score for an upcoming independent film with co-composer John Heitzenrater.

From an early age, Chris was an audio enthusiast, constantly gathering and editing sounds along with his many voices to produce would be "radio shows" with the help of two portable cassette recorders. Throughout Middle and High School, Chris pursued his love of all things musical and taught himself guitar, bass, piano, violin and with the help of a Webster's dictionary as a practice pad, drum rudiments.

Chris graduated with a B.S. in Audio Engineering and Production from Middle Tennessee State University after which he was employed by Darkhorse Recording and Woodland Studios. Chris has been fortunate enough to have worked with many artists spanning a wide range of genres.

As a multi-instrumentalist, Chris has spent the last 10 years expanding his knowledge and performance skills on instruments from around the globe. Included among these are a handful of the many percussion instruments from India such as dholak, kanjira, moorsing and pakawaj with an in-depth study of the Delhi and Lucknow style of tabla in the tradition of Taranath Rao and Swapan Chaudhuri. Chris has also been a maker and teacher of the Australian aboriginal instrument, the didgeridoo, for 13 years and has performed with many different artists in both live and studio situations.

Recent projects include regularly performing tabla along with North Indian classical musicians in the Triangle area, percussionist in a Bollywood film music ensemble, producing scores for video and film and performing with Triangle based Hindugrass East with John Heitzenrater and Ryan Cavanaugh.
